Softball Season
As they do every year, Washington held
tryouts for their softball team on 3/12-3/13/08. The girls
demonstrated throwing, catching, and batting which was
included in the tryouts for it is essential for a softball
player. These positions were open to girls in grades 6th
through 8th which 27 girls tried out. After a hard and
trying two days, 16 girls were chosen for this team. The
co-coach, Ms.O’Connor says, “It was very hard,
a lot of girls did well but we couldn’t pick more
than 16”. So far the positions are as follows: pitcher-
Lizette Cruz or Franchely Inoa, catcher-Kassandra Sanchez.
Practices are held at least two times a week to prepare
for the season. Only the girls with the mental and physical
strength were chosen for this team.Washington School softball
has had winning seasons these past three years and hopes
to do well this year too.
All games are all played at the16th Street field #3 @
6:00pm (except for the June 2nd game, it will be played

Week Of The
Young Child

Washington School tecahers
tie-dye their T-shirts for the Week of the Young
Child.
As a time honored tradition, the
primary grade teachers of Washington Community School
are getting creative to think of activities and
programs for the young students. To kick off the
week, teachers and students tie-dyed t-shirts in
Washington colors to show their pride. Ms. Morreale
ordered the beautiful colors from a company in Colorado.
All the teachers and students gathered in the cafeteria
to do the coloring. “Everyone is very excited
about this project,” said Ms. O’Connor.
Both teachers and students were having fun making
patterns and coloring the shirts. Everyone will
be wearing the shirts on Friday. Other activities
taking place this week are the Annual Week of The
Young Child Dinner to be held Tuesday night at the
Chandelier at 4:00pm.

colors for the T-shirts.
