Academic Challenge
The Academic Challenge is a district wide program consisting of a team of eighth graders who meet weekly to "challenge their brains". After months of extensive training, five top winners from the group compete with other schools in the district. These students take a 120 multiple choice question test. The school teams are ranked in numerical order based on the scores of the test.
Boys' Basketball
There are two boys'
basketball teams. The Varsity includes grades 7 and 8. The
B team includes grades 4, 5 and 6. Both squads have a 12 man roster.
They are nicknamed the Robinson Royals.
Girls' Basketball
There are two girls'
basketball teams. The Varsity includes grades 6, 7 and 8. The
B team includes grades 4, 5 and 6. They are nicknamed the Robinson
Lady Royals.
Co-Ed Volleyball
The volleyball team consists of boys and girls in grade 8. The team
plays matches against other local schools but the league is considered
noncompetitive.
Cheerleading
Robinson's squad
consists of girls from grades 5 - 8. They cheer for both the boys and girls
basketball games. They also learn a cheer / dance routine which is
used during competition season. The B-team squad consists of girls
from grades 2 - 5 who learn the basics of cheerleading.
Chess
The members of the
Chess Team are in grades 6, 7 and 8. Tournaments are grade level
and city wide. Members also participate in chess clinics.
Tennis
Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 may participate. Robinson has the first
grammar school tennis team in the city. The girls play in the fall and
the boys play in the spring.
Public Speaking
Public speaking is open to all students in grades 6, 7 and 8.
There are four categories or specialties and a competition with other grammar
schools.
