Narrative from State Report Card
In 1910 -11, Bayonne High School proudly moved into the imposing new building on 31st Street near the Boulevard containing the largest auditorium in the city at that time. In the late 30ís when the present high school was completed, it then became a neighborhood elementary school. Robinson School was named in honor of Dr. Walter F. Robinson, a former superintendent of schools and historian of the City of Bayonne who authored "The Historical History of Modern Bayonne".
Dr. Walter F. Robinson School serves a diverse population of students in grades Pre K through Eight. Robinson School attempts to provide equal educational opportunities for all students commensurate with their needs, abilities and diverse cultural backgrounds. The Robinson School staff strives to foster a climate in which good human relations can flourish and intellectual growth can occur.
Robinson School offers a full range of special subjects, such as art, music, computers, physical education, and library to augment the basic core curricular subjects.
Various co-curricular activities are available for the student body such as sports teams, musical presentations by the band/orchestra and chorus, Cheerleading squad, Forensic Team, Chess Team, Peer Leadership and Mediation Groups, Math Club and Academic Challenge Team. Robinson School also offers the students the opportunity to participate in the DARE anti-drug program, both district and county Science Fairs, Wee Deliver Literacy programs, and Week of the Young Child activities.
The Robinson School student body is involved in several community related activities such as the Cleaner and Greener Bayonne campaign designed to beautify Bayonne. Various professional people from the community read to grades Pre-Kindergarten through 3 in a Read Aloud program. Adult Seniors volunteer as teacher aides in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 3. Through an Adopt - a Neighborhood program, the students plant trees in the community and around school grounds. Another successful activity is the Box Tops for Education campaign. Because of this activity, the school is able to obtain much needed educational equipment.
Robinson School has a very active Parent Teachers Council.
Through various fund-raisers the parents are able to supply awards for
student contests, support the 8th grade dance and provide a wide variety
or educational or technological items for the school.
