The griffin was selected as the school's mascot as a result of an upper grade contest conducted in the late 1970's in Robinson School.  The griffin is a creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle.  In Greek mythology, the griffin drew the chariot of the sun.  Robinson's griffin sports a crown in keeping with the school's nickname of the Royals.
