The
city was as busy as ever today
As
the doors of the high school opened
The
students regretted another boring day
The
halls were diverse with folks of all different races
It
seemed as if every culture had its places
The
kids did not mix, no race intertwined
Everyone
was secluded and so were their minds
As
I stepped into school on that sunny morn
I
realized that toleration of culture needed to be born
I
talked to the blacks, I talked to the whites
I
sat with the Asians and Egyptians at lunch
I
needed to stop all the fights
But
I had no race, no culture, no sex
My
name was unknown to the students
The
only thing I shared was that I demanded respect
I
was given strange looks and even heard some remarks
But
I walked around the school that day
And
put toleration in their hearts
The
next day I returned and did not recognize
My
heart skipped a beat due to the surprise
All
cultures were mixed and all students spoke
All
races of people laughed and joked
I
knew I was to thank, but did not take the praise
It
just made me happy to have changed that school's ways
I
had other places to go, I had not fulfilled my vocation
For
a job will never end when your name is toleration.
