Today, as I sit down in the classroom and look around,
I notice all of the different faces around me,
Different race, sex, and language.
Yet it seems that the only thing that is different is our appearance.
Everyone around me talks, laughs, and works,
We all live on the same planet Earth
But if everyone is the same on the inside,
Why is cultural segregation still common?
We all have different backgrounds and traditions,
And we should all be able to share the quality of our past.
Still, some children and even adults are viewed differently because of their ethnicity.
By not being accepting to others, how can we ever hope to live in a utopia,
A world free of racism, sexism, all based on how someone looks.
Instead of condoning those whose actions cause problems,
We are instead being bias, being judgmental on appearance.
Diversity is all around us,
You wouldn’t want to be left out because of your own differences from the world,
The feeling that you are strange in a bad way, or your beliefs are “wrong”.
Don’t ever be afraid to talk to someone whose features and ideas are different from yours
Something good may come out of it,
You may even make a friend.
