Driving by a high school
in an urban city,
You see many different
students walking in and out of the doorways.
Everyone is smiling,
talking, and walking with their own group,
And you judge that a
majority of students have conformed to a somewhat hostile world,
But when you take a
closer look,
You are amazed to see the
cultural diversity that exists.
Most of the groups
contain people from all different races,
But similar expressions
of joy are found on all of their faces,
And you think to yourself,
how did this come about?
And how this could happen
with all the chaos and fighting in the world?
Soon you realize that
respect is promoted by teachers and staff,
And
displayed by most teenagers, including those that do not even follow all of the
rules.
So then you think how
this school could be any different, from any other
But that’s an easy
answer, I’ll tell you, it strives to be the best,
In Academics, Athletics,
and Activities,
Teamwork and cooperation
are always stressed.
Tolerance, respect, and
cultural diversity are promoted,
Through forums and weekly
discussions held by SPHERE*,
The importance of
respecting, not necessarily liking our fellow human beings is taught.
No one will ever get
along with everyone else,
But we can try to be
friendly.
Occasionally there are
disputes in the hallways,
Where teachers and
students are stained with the aftermath of the fight,
That
only leaves people hurt, bruised, and crying.
Fights are unfortunate
reminders of reality from the world in which we really live in,
And that we should try
and put a stop to the hatred we see around us.
Tolerance and respect
allow us to honor and protect ourselves and our neighbors,
From violence, hatred,
and disrespect that has spread throughout the nations,
And instead promote
humanity and equal rights.
People from all different
backgrounds come together
under “one” roof to learn and grow,
To learn
the values of respect and tolerance for each others’ differences.
Each student in its own
unique way
Contributes a piece of the puzzle that
makes up this big school,
In a
very diverse urban city.
