Choir & Band

The orchestra is directed by Mr. Oberwanowicz and our choir is directed by Mrs. Rost. Our choir and band are very fortunate to have such talented directors who spend many hours practicing with the students for the Holiday concert and the Spring concert.

The Computer Club at John M. Bailey School meets every Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM. It is open to all 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students under the direction of Mrs. Roseann Pona. The main objective of the club is to work as a team and promote 'school spirit' with the projects they create.  During this time the members of the club create signs, banners and other graphic projects for hallways, classrooms and for the teachers.  They also use this time to work on newsletters, calendars, and surveys.  Computer members are also learning how to install software, troubleshootproblems in the computer lab and throughout the school.
Our computer members are also learning how to use the video equipment and digital equipment more efficiently.  They do so by taping school activities and using pictures in multimedia projects, such as slide show presentations.

Peer is a good place for our students to learn how to be leaders and not followers. They also learn skills on how to be good listeners and work with different people to figure out different problems. They learn to listen to people  and understand their feelings.  Some activities they do during the course of the year are to participate in  "Helping  Hands", service projects, and going on an overnight camping trip to help them learn more of their skills.
Mrs. Roseann Pona is the moderator for 8th Grade Peer

Mrs. Ann Marie Meyers is the moderator for 7th Grade Peer.

The Chess Club is under the direction of  Mr. Gary Oberwanowicz.
The club is open to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The club gives each student the opportunity to put their thinking and problem solving skills to the test. This is done when our school participates in various Chess Tournaments throughout the year.

Congratulations for coming in second place in the city-wide tournament during the 2006 - 2007 school year.

Dare - Officer Brattole is our Dare officer.
The DARE program is currently taught in each school in Bayonne to 5th, 7th and 9th graders.  The program encourages these age groups to develop skills necessary for them to resist the pressures of their peers and even sometimes family members to experiment with alcohol and drugs.  Incorporated into the 17 week course for the 5th grade and 10 week program for the 7th graders are classes dealing with self-esteem, positive alternatives and gang/violence awareness.  We are very fortunate to have the program available to our school.  The police and school are strengthening your child's position against drugs and alcohol but without a parent's involvement, what they learn in school is lost.

Basketball
We are very proud of our basketball teams.
We thank our coaches for their time and dedication:

Martin Stewart- Girl's Varsity Coach
Matt Wexler- Boys' Varsity Coach

CHEERLEADING

Our cheerleaders practice many hours under the direction of Lisa Bermudez, our Bailey cheerleading coach for the 2007-2008 school year.
They often cheer at our boys' and girls' basketball games and at competitions.
We thank the cheerleaders for their time, spirit, determination and their Bailey Pride.
