GENERAL INFORMATION
-
These lessons will vary depending on the number of computers available
for class use. Small groups can gather information while taking turns at
the computer over the course of several days. All information can be combined
at the end. There are parts of these lessons that can be completed off-line.
Journal writing and predicting can be completed by the students who are
waiting their turn to use the computer. Also encourage students to incorporate
other ways of researching severe weather. This will allow students to discuss
the benefits and drawbacks of Internet research.
-
Small group work: To facilitate cooperative learning in small groups, assign
a role to each group member. There may be a computer operator, a recorder,
a presenter, and a time keeper. Alternate roles depending upon their needs.
Special note on the timekeeper: It’s easy to get carried away when working
on line. Many sites will have links to other sites as so on and so on.The
time keeper reminds the group of their assigned tasks and assures that
they stick to their time frame.
Time Frame- each lesson is designed to fit in to a 45 minute to 1 hour
class session. Adjust the lesson to fit your requirements. You many need
to stretch each lesson over several days in order to give each small group
time to complete their task.
