Activity 1: Travel Brochure/ Poster

Purpose: Each group of students will visit a designated city to gather pertinent facts and information. They will use these facts to create an original travel brochure or poster to advertise it.  Projects will be displayed and shared among the participating groups.

Materials:


Procedure:

    1. Distribute City Data Collection Sheets (one per group).
    2. Students will use online resources to complete City Data Collection Sheets.
    3. Using information from City Data Collection Sheets, groups will create either a Travel Brochure or a Poster celebrating the city.
    4. Each group will share its information with the entire class.
    5. In order to successfully complete this project refer to Language Arts:    Activity 3.
Activity 2: Know Your City

Purpose: Students will collect information about their own city.

Materials: 

Procedure:
  1. Distribute City Data Collection Sheet (one per student.)
  2. Student will complete the City Data Collection Sheet using the information gathered.
  3. Each student will then compare and contrast the information about his/her own city with a choice of one of the five designated cities.
    • Seattle, Washington
    • Phoenix, Arizona
    • Kansas City, Missouri
    • New  Orleans, Louisiana
    • New York City, New York


   This information can be represented on a wall chart using symbols created by the students.
