Canadian Jazz Singer Nikki Yanofsky to Appear at Bayonne High School

On Wednesday, May 5, 2010, the world renown Jazz vocalist Nikki Yanofski will be appearing live at Bayonne High School. Ms. Yanofsky, a 16 year old Canadian jazz sensation, will be performing a short concert for the Bayonne High School students followed by an open question and answer session. "We're very excited about this visit", noted band director Serge Puchinsky, "Nikki is an amazing artist that my students and I have been following for a few years now. When we received the call from Moxie that she was interested in visiting our school during her trip to New York we were just in shock!" Moxie is a company that promotes new artists with schools and through school journalism, sending schools free CD's and press kits, and arranging visits such as this one to expose students to new artists in the music business.

At age 16, Nikki already has an amazing bio. She first debuted at the 2006 Montreal Jazz Festival and was the youngest singer ever to record on a Verve Records release when she recorded Airmail Special for the Ella Fitzgerald tribute album, We all Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song, alongside such musical luminaries as Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, Diana Krall and Natalie Cole. In 2008 Nikki released Ella... of Thee I Swing - a live CD/DVD package recorded in Montreal. The 2008 release earned Nikki two Juno nominations including New Artist of the Year and Jazz Vocal Album of the Year.

Most recently, Nikki was a featured artist at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games held in Vancouver. Performing at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics as well as the opening ceremony at the Paralympics, Nikki was introduced to a world-wide audience.

On Tuesday, May 4th, Nikki will be appearing live at Dizzy's Coca Cola Club in New York City to celebrate the release of her latest album entitled Nikki release with Decca Records and produced by the legendary Phil Ramone and Jesse Harris. The following day, on May 5th, Nikki will stop over at Bayonne High School for a quick concert and a "meet & greet" with the Bayonne High School music students, who will have the opportunity to speak with Nikki one-on-one about working in the music and recording industry, performing as a professional musician, and her artistic influences.
