Dear Parents,

Recently, in response to concerns raised by parents regarding their ability to purchase the required uniforms for the start of the 2006-07 school year, the Bayonne Board of Education modified its policy with respect to the approved vendor and the requirements of the uniform itself.  The Board added another vendor who is authorized to provide the uniform shirt with Bayonne logo and authorized parents to purchase khaki pants, skirts etc. from other vendors as long as they comply with the required color and style.

In response to this modification of the policy, we have learned that some parents have now attempted to cancel their orders with Uniformity.   While the Board cannot get involved in transactions between a private vendor and parents, the Board does wish to encourage parents to seriously reconsider any effort to cancel orders for uniforms at this time.

It should be noted that the Board selected Uniformity as its vendor because the company offered the most economic and highest quality uniform package for parents.   The package offered by Uniformity, which essentially provides the required school uniform for four school days for only $89, is certainly competitive with what parents can purchase elsewhere.

At the Board’s request, Uniformity has made a number of accommodations to make it easier for parents to purchase uniforms.  Shipping costs were eliminated.  Further, more options were made available for parents to purchase individual items.

One of the reasons Uniformity was selected as the designated vendor, however, was due to its size and its ability to fill thousands of orders for uniforms on a timely basis.    We have been advised that most of the uniform orders placed before July 29, 2006, have already been packaged and many have already been shipped.  It may not be possible for parents to obtain uniforms in a timely manner if orders were now to be cancelled.  Further, the standard policy of Uniformity, applied to all purchases, is that while exchanges may be permitted for size, previous orders cannot be cancelled.

Therefore, while there are additional purchase options now available to parents for current and future purchases, previous purchase orders should be honored and must comply with the return policies of the vendor.  We appreciate the anticipated cooperation of parents in this matter.

                                                                                    Sincerely,
