Assignment: the “New Imperialism”

Beginning in the latter
half of the 19th century, European nations embarked on a period of
expansionism that was far greater than its previous global conquest during the
16th and 17th centuries.
Your assignment is to write a 500 word essay on one of the three essay
questions below.
A. What were the motives of the “new imperialism” and how did anti
– imperialist respond to it?
B. “When [the imperialist] wants a new market for his
adulterated…goods, he sends a missionary to teach the natives the gospel
peace. The natives kill the missionary:
[the imperialist] flies to arms in defense of [religion]: fights for it,
conquers for it, and takes the market as a reward from heaven.”

(approximately seventy – five words).
