Background Information
1. Identify the sun
as the major source of energy for the earth. Emphasize that it provides
the energy needed to generate the wind and weather.
2. Compare and contrast air
masses. Explain what happens when they pass over an area.
3. Demonstrate the presence
of humidity in the atmosphere. Humidity is the amount of water vapor
in the atmosphere.
-
Introduce this concept by asking
what happens to the mirror during a hot bath or shower.
-
To demonstrate this concept, fill
a glass with water and ice. Add a few drops of food coloring.
The purpose of adding food coloring is to prove that the condensation which
occurs is moisture from the atmosphere and not from the cup. Let
it stand for a few minutes. Have students observe and discuss what
happens.
