TEACHER LESSON PLAN
OBJECTIVE
Students will be able to collect real time data on Carbon Monoxide, temperature,
demographics and meteorological factors that may contribute to elevated levels of
carbon monoxide during the winter months. Several real time monitoring sites for
carbon monoxide, temperature and weather are available through the internet (see links
below). It is recommended that you (the teacher) familiarize yourself with
these sites and the type of data available before taking students through this project.
Accurate, organized information needs to be maintained by students. An example of a data sheet is available in the student lab report section.
Upon completion of data collecting, with your guidance, students will be able to create graphs and analysis reports on carbon monoxide levels in relationship to other factors happening at their monitoring site. This information can be used to answer questions (see student lab report) or to facilitate other activities and discussions on the political, social, medical and economic implications of carbon monoxide pollution.
Note: This carbon monoxide monitoring project pertains to New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.
