   The Battleship is scheduled to depart from Bremerton, Washington on September 13, 1999. It is scheduled to pass through the Panama Canal on October 16-18 and to reach Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 4, 1999.

    a specified travel itinerary.

Roles are assigned to students ,based on their journal entry, in order to create positive interdependence and to teach students new skills.

Recorder/Reporter

    collects information
    certifies results

Principle Investigator

    directs activity

Observer

Maintenance Director

    responsible for clean - up

Materials Manager

    dispenses all materials
    sets up and operates equipment
    helps collect data
    only student who may move around classroom without special permission

Internet Supervisor

    turns on and shuts down computer at the start and end of each day
    oversees small groups gathering information on the Internet
    troubleshooter
 

Assessment Strategies

    A variety of assessment tools may be used for this unit. These assessment strategies may include: journal writing activities, creative writing, analysis of hands-on activities, photographic essays, Hyperstudio presentation, graphing analysis, and compiling and interpreting data.
