The First Battleship New Jersey


 

The first USS New Jersey was built in 1906 in Quincy, Massachusetts.  It was a 14,948 ton Virginia class battleship.  She participated in the "Great White Fleet's cruise.  Following this cruise she was "modernized".  During World War I she was a training ship.  After World War I she brought veterans home from Europe.  She was decommissioned in l920 and was sunk off Cape Hatteras as a bombing target in September 1923.

The Second Battleship New Jersey

    The second Battleship New Jersey (BB62) was launched December 7, 1942 by the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and commissioned at Philadelphia on May 23, 1943.
