BAYONNE HIGH SCHOOL ART STUDENT
WINS AWARD AT
EMERGING ARTISTS 2008 EXHIBIT

Jared Hart was presented with an Honorable Mention Award for his artwork in the 20th Annual Emerging Artists Exhibit sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey. This exhibit featured artwork produced by students who are studying art in high schools throughout the state of New Jersey.

Jared a senior at BHS and Computer Graphics student of Mrs. Charlann Meluso , won his award for his image titled “The Passage”.   It was a digital color photograph of a female student making her way through a passageway in the battery at Sandy Hook State Park, NJ.  It was reminiscent of the narrow streets and passages found in some Middle Eastern countries.

Sarah Cruz, a Photography student of Mr. Thomas Hart and Christian Ostorga, a Fine Arts student of Mrs. Christina Poruczynski also had their artwork on display at the exhibition.

The art exhibit was held at the James Howe Gallery at Kean College from January 7 to 20, 2008, with the awards reception on Sunday, January 20.  This year’s show included work from 40 students from 21 high schools, 18 districts in 9 counties in New Jersey.  The annual art exhibit was initiated in 1968 in an effort to recognize the outstanding achievements of New Jersey high school students in the area of visual arts, and to heighten public awareness of art education programs in the state.

BHS Principal Richard J. Baccarella commented “The faculty and staff at Bayonne High School are extremely proud of the achievements of our students.  We would also like to recognize the hard work on behalf of all the staff in our art department.  Our teaching staff are truly dedicated professionals.

Joan H. Rosen, Director of Music and Art had this to say: “I am so proud of the work of our students and I am pleased that through my affiliation with the AANJ our students can reach this honor that has been likened to a Visual Arts All-State Competition”.
