FOUR BHS ART STUDENTS

RECEIVE AWARDS AT

 NEWARK MUSEUM ART COMPETITION

The 16th annual 10th Congressional District Art Competition held at the Newark Museum during the month of April featured the artwork of eight Bayonne High School art students.

Each spring, the competition entitled “An Artistic Discovery”, coordinated by Members of Congress, highlights the importance of art in our nation’s high schools and displays the artwork of Public and Private schools in our district.   This year there were 125 artworks on display from the cities and towns encompassing the 10th Congressional District.

This year four of our art students were given top awards for their artwork.  Nora Abdel-aziz was awarded 1st place for her digital photograph titled “Passive Retreat”. Jared Hart was awarded 2nd Place for his 3-D digital photograph pop-up titled “The Nelsons”.   Both are Computer Graphics students of Mrs. Charlann Meluso.  Nicole Rosa was awarded 3rd place for her black & white photograph titled “Enlightened Path”.  Nicole is a Photography student of Mr. Thomas Hart.  Kasey Balla was awarded 2nd Place for her oil painting titled “Last Breath”.  In addition, Kasey’ painting was chosen for 3rd Place in the Best Overall category.  Kasey is a Fine Arts student of Mrs. Christina Poruczynski. The awards presentation and reception was held at the Newark Museum on Monday, April 23, 2007.  Many of the students from the 23 participating high schools were in attendance.  Each participant was presented with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition by Congressman Donald M. Payne.  The winners in each category also received medals.
