FIFTEEN BHS ART STUDENTS SELECTED AS

2007 SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS  GOLD KEY” WINNERS

Fifteen Bayonne High School Art Students were selected as “Gold Key” award winners in the Region-at Large competition of the Scholastic Art Awards of 2007.  This is an annual competition sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Inc.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards offer early recognition of creative teenagers and scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors.

The following students are the 2007 recipients of  the “Gold Key” awards:

Kasey Balla, Fine Art student of Mrs. Christina Poruczynski.     Alison Antisz, Sarah Cruz, Dominic DuCap, Tommy Harrington, Jared Hart, Faryn Lynch, Amanda Meys and Corinne Pona, Photography students of Mr. Thomas Hart, Nicholas Bicica, HyeSung Cho, Jared Hart, Joseph Maresca, Gaurav Shah, Susan Sikorski and Ryan Zaleck, Computer Graphics students of Mrs. Charlann Meluso.

The preliminary judging took place in Manhattan late January/early February.  There were over 3,000 entries from our region.  Bayonne High School submitted 89 entries.  We received a total of 23 “Gold Key” Awards (Kasey Balla and Sara Cruz had 2 photos selected, Jared Hart had 6 entries selected).  This is quite a significant achievement.   All 23 artworks have advanced to the national level for judging.  If any of our student’s artwork is selected as a national award recipient, we will be notified in early May. All of these students will receive Gold key pins and certificates for their efforts.
