BAYONNE HIGH SCHOOL ART STUDENT WINS AWARD AT EMERGING
ARTISTS 2007 EXHIBIT
Faryn Lynch was presented with an Honorable Mention
Award for her artwork in the 19th Annual Emerging Artists Exhibit
sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey. This exhibit featured
artwork produced by students who are studying art in high schools throughout
the state of New
Jersey.
Faryn, a
senior at BHS and Photography student of Mr. Thomas G. Hart, won her award for
her image titled “Inanimate Affection”.
It was a digital color photograph of an eerily lifelike antique doll’s
head peering over a double-wick lighted candle.
The dolls opened hands frame the eyes, creating a “looking into the
distance” effect. This image is one of many that Faryn
has done in this style and has received recognition for so far this year.
Christa Wulffen, a
Computer Graphics student of Mrs. Charlann Meluso and Kasey Balla, a Fine Arts student of Mrs. Christina Poruczynski also had their artwork on display at the
exhibition.
The art exhibit was held at the Free
Public Library and Cultural Center of Bayonne from January 6 to February 3, with the awards
reception on Saturday, February 3 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. This year’s show included work from 41
students from 33 high schools, 19 districts in 8 counties in New Jersey. The
annual art exhibit was initiated in 1968 in an effort to recognize the
outstanding achievements of New Jersey high school students in the area of visual arts,
and to heighten public awareness of art education programs in the state.
BHS Principal Richard J. Baccarella commented
“The faculty and staff at Bayonne High School are extremely proud of the achievements of our
students. We would also like to
recognize the hard work on behalf of all the staff in our art department. Our teaching staff are
truly dedicated professionals.
Joan H. Rosen, Director of Music and Art had this
to say: “I am so proud of the work of our students and
I am pleased that through my affiliation with the AANJ our students can reach
this honor that has been likened to a Visual Arts All-State Competition”.
