BHS ART STUDENTS VISIT INTERNATIONAL ART EXPO

AND CENTRAL PARK IN NYC

Photography students of Mr. Thomas Hart and Computer Graphics students of Mrs. Charlann Meluso visited the 29th Annual International Art Expo at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC on March 2, 2007.

The International Art Expo brought exhibitors and attendees together under the theme, “Art is Everywhere”.  The show celebrated both the obvious and understated ways art weaves its way through our lives and emphasized how art can be seen in nature, architecture and design, food, sports, writing, music and more.  Over 500 exhibitors featured an exciting and eclectic mix of paintings, prints, posters, animation, photography, sculpture, glass, fine art crafts and more.

The BHS art students were able to view thousands of pieces of Fine, Functional and Decorative Art being showcased by dealers and gallery owners in a convenient setting at the center.  The students gained an invaluable perspective on all the latest trends sweeping the art markets.  Many of the students were given posters, brochures and samples of the artwork featured.  In some instances they were even able to meet and converse with the artists themselves.

Before boarding the bus for the return trip home, the students also visited Central Park to photograph areas around Strawberry Fields, Bathesda Terrace, Bow Bridge and Belvedere Castle. The sunlight was perfect for the students to take photos which many will use in the Photography and Computer Graphics Labs at BHS.

The unexpected treat of the day was meeting John Stossel, the investigative reporter of WABC’s 20/20 television show as he was biking through the park.   Mr. Stossel graciously addressed the students and posed for photographs with the group.
