TWO BHS ART STUDENTS WIN AWARDS

On the Same Path

Two Bayonne High School art students received awards in the 2008 PIEA International Student-Teacher Photo Competition and Exhibition.  Sarah Ehrhard received an Honorable Mention award for her computer-assisted image titled “On the Same Path”.  Robyn Drag was awarded an Honorable Mention for her Digital Photograph titled “Boy and Irons”.  Both images were produced in the BHS Photography and Digital Imaging Labs. Sarah, a senior, is a Computer Graphics student of Mrs. Charlann Meluso.   Robyn, also a senior, is a Photography student of Mr. Thomas G. Hart.   Mr. Hart and Mrs.Meluso’s students have received top awards in this competition many times in the past.   Last year, BHS received both First and Third place awards in the Computer -Assisted category.  In 2006 BHS garnished 5 top awards including Grand Prize.   In 2005, BHS received 4 top awards and in both 2004 and 2003 BHS received 3 top awards including Grand Boy with IronsPrize both years.

            In addition, this year Mrs. Meluso received an Exhibitor award in the Teacher /Staff category for her digital photograph titled “ Love is Original”.

The Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA) received 6,150 images from 1,309 entrants representing 115 schools in 9 countries including Australia , Canada , Guatemala , Honduras , India , New Zealand , South Africa , the United Kingdom and the USA .   118 winning images were selected. Students and teachers collectively won over $159,000 in valuable prizes from 81 generous sponsors from 4 countries, making this the best-endowed international student photo competition in the world.   All of the winning images will be exhibited in two International Traveling Exhibitions on tours to Australia , South Africa , Canada , the USA and the United Kingdom from 2008 until 2010.
