The Industrial Revolution transformed the economic and social structure of
Europe and led the world into the era of modernization. Great Britain would become the first nation
– state to take up the stewardship of industrialization during the early part
of the nineteenth century, and subsequently experience economic advancement and
social unrest as well. This
industrialization generally occurred in the urban centers, thus creating new
migratory patterns from which people from the countryside would come to cities
in search of a better way of life.
Unfortunately, many of these individuals suffered considerable hardships
during this period.
